The conquest of the World Cup 2026 not only gave Spain its second star, but it also caused a change at the top of the FIFA Ranking. After defeating Argentina 1-0 in the final, the team led by Luis de la Fuente snatched the first place in the ranking from the Albiceleste.

The update following the tournament left the Red as the new leader with 1995.88 points, while the team of Lionel Scaloni remained second with 1970.30. Thus, Spain concluded a perfect World Cup with a double reward: the title and the leadership of the ranking.

It is worth remembering that Argentina had started the World Cup as the number one in the world and even temporarily regained that spot after defeating England in the semifinals, as the ranking was updated during the tournament. However, the defeat in the final ultimately tipped the balance in favor of the Spanish team.

On the other hand, despite its 6-4 loss in the third-place match against England, France maintained its third place with 1948.97 points, followed closely by the British, who, although they earned quite a few points for their victory over the French, with their 1922.83 points did not make it to the podium.

Meanwhile, the rest of the top 10 also saw several movements: Brazil and Morocco surpassed Portugal to take 5th and 6th place respectively, Belgium displaced the Netherlands to the eighth position and, with a meteoric rise, Mexico entered the top 10, pushing out Germany and Croatia.
