Nature has struck with relentless fury at Venezuela, exposing the "enormous institutional and economic fragility" of a country that has no margin for response in the face of adversity. Last Wednesday, Venezuelan territory was the victim of a "double seismic event", a rare phenomenon where two large-magnitude earthquakes occur in the same area with just a 39-second difference. The first impact registered a magnitude of 7.2, immediately followed by a second quake of 7.5. This deadly sequence, according to geologist Andrés Folguera, left "no margin to evacuate between one shake and the next", impacting already weakened structures and multiplying the disaster in Caracas and La Guaira.

In this chaotic scenario, President Javier Milei has taken the initiative, confirming this Thursday that the Argentine Republic will send humanitarian aid immediately. The coordination of this rescue mission is in charge of the Chief of Staff, Manuel Adorni, along with the Ministry of Security, demonstrating the executive efficiency of the current administration.

Through a statement from the Office of the President, the moral superiority of Argentine assistance was emphasized: "Beyond the differences that may exist between our governments, the Argentine Republic expresses its willingness to collaborate with the humanitarian assistance that may be required, in coordination with the relevant international organizations".

The deployment of Argentine resources to assist the victims —which already total 188 dead, 1,520 injured, and 157 missing— is total and decisive:

Armed Forces: The Argentine Foreign Ministry is preparing to send military aircraft for the transport of supplies and personnel in the coming hours.

Elite Personnel: The mission includes firefighters, doctors, and specialized search and rescue teams with tracking dogs.

Critical Infrastructure: A water purification plant will be sent with specialized technicians and road machinery operators to remove debris blocking the affected areas.

White Helmets: The humanitarian assistance commission, led by diplomat Eduardo Porretti, is in charge of the technical execution. Porretti, who already has experience in Caracas after having led the embassy during Mauricio Macri's administration, is the key figure to ensure that aid effectively reaches those in need.

Despite Argentina's willingness, the contrast with the attitude of the Venezuelan regime is notable. Argentine Foreign Minister Pablo Quirno personally communicated with his counterpart, Yván Gil, to reaffirm support. However, the chavista leadership, headed by acting president Delcy Rodríguez, has opted for silence, omitting any public gratitude towards Javier Milei or Argentina, in a clear gesture of political meanness in the face of the magnitude of the tragedy.

While experts warn that aftershocks will continue to affect the already precarious Venezuelan infrastructure, the government of Javier Milei reaffirms that Argentina will not abandon the citizens suffering the consequences of the catastrophe and misgovernment. The aid from the Armed Forces and the White Helmets represents the outstretched hand of a nation that is once again a protagonist in international assistance, prioritizing life above any political differences.
