Guillermo Arias will be the new electoral judge of Córdoba

The selection process to fill the Electoral Court of the Province of Córdoba has entered its decisive stage and stirred controversy between the ruling party and the opposition. Guillermo Arias, who served for years as a historic technical advisor and organizer for the Peronist bloc in the Legislature, was positioned in the first place of the merit order established by the Council of the Judiciary. In second place was the radical Diego Frossasco.

Arias is one step away from becoming the successor to the historic judge Marta Vidal, who led the electoral jurisdiction for decades. However, the profile of the candidate immediately led to a public clash.

Strong accusations and clash on social media over the new electoral judge

The national senator Luis Juez ignited the fuse by harshly questioning the neutrality of the nomination. Juez pointed out the lack of transparency in the selection process and criticized the appointment of a historic collaborator of the ruling party to the court.

"It's very obvious. Don't get angry when we say that Córdoba is Formosa with soy," he posted on X.

The response came from the president of the Hacemos Unidos por Córdoba bloc in the Unicameral, Facundo Torres.

Torres flatly rejected the criticisms, defended the legitimacy of the opposition contest and background established by the Council of the Judiciary, and stated that Arias's position strictly reflects his technical and academic performance in a public examination, also accusing Juez of systematically delegitimizing Córdoba's institutions.
