An illegal immigrant slit the throat of a woman in Spain while shouting “Allah is great”

An illegal immigrant stabbed a woman to death in the town of Esplugues de Llobregat, on the outskirts of Barcelona, Spain, last Saturday at 11 in the morning.

According to witnesses, the attacker, who would be an undocumented Moroccan, shouted "Allah is great" moments before pouncing on his victim.

The attack took place in a residential area near Camp Nou. Residents of the neighborhood reported seeing the suspect prowling around the place in the days leading up to the crime, and at least one stated that it appeared that he had been “watching the place”

He was reportedly seen acting “nervously” in the moments immediately before the stabbing. An image of the assailant went through social media, showing him armed with a knife, walking through the streets of the neighborhood minutes after the

attack.

The suspect stabbed the woman several times and slit her throat before fleeing the scene. In the midst of the attack, a 58-year-old neighbor named José Luis heard the screams and ran up to where the noise was coming from

“He approached me and tried to stab me at the top of the stairs, but he didn't succeed,” said José Luis, who was injured during the confrontation.

The neighbor tried to hit him to defend himself, but the attacker grabbed stones from the ground and threw them at him, hitting him in the arm. He then tried to stab him three to four more times

“It was easier for him to stab a young woman than a man,” said José Luis. It was the cries of the neighbors demanding the police presence that finally made the aggressor flee the place

The case revives the debate in Spain about the management of illegal immigration and public security, in a context in which similar episodes have generated growing political tension.

The combination of the suspect's migratory situation, the crime committed, and the religious invocation prior to the attack brought the issue back to the center of the Spanish and global agenda.
