The President of Peru, Keiko Fujimori, assured that citizen security will be one of the pillars of her government and promised to promote a series of measures to confront the advance of crime, organized crime, and drug trafficking.
During her inauguration speech, the president stated that regaining the tranquility of Peruvians is an immediate priority and maintained that her administration will work to restore control of the territory to the State through a policy of greater firmness against criminal organizations.

Fujimori pointed out that insecurity has become one of the main concerns of the population and affirmed that the State must respond with stronger institutions and a coordinated strategy among the National Police, the Armed Forces, the Public Ministry, and the Judiciary.
The president also stated that she will seek to toughen penalties for those who are part of criminal organizations and will promote legal reforms to expedite judicial processes related to violent crimes.
Another of the axes proposed by Fujimori is to strengthen border control to combat drug trafficking, smuggling, and the entry of transnational criminal organizations. The president indicated that she will work in coordination with neighboring countries to strengthen regional cooperation in security matters and information exchange, especially in light of the growth of networks dedicated to drug, arms, and human trafficking.
In her message, the head of State also expressed her support for police and military forces, highlighting the role they play in the fight against crime. She noted that her government will promote greater coordination among the various institutions responsible for public security and will implement specific plans to recover neighborhoods and areas affected by high crime rates.
