After more than two decades out of the local market, the Spanish fashion chain Mango is preparing to return to Argentina. Its first store will open in the first days of October in one of the main shopping centers in Buenos Aires.

The store will be located on the ground floor of Alto Palermo and will occupy more than 500 square meters. There, the collections for women and men will be gathered in one space, focusing on clothing and footwear.

The operation will be managed by Grimoldi, which will market the brand under the name MNG. The company arrives with an estimated investment of US$2.5 million annually and an ambitious expansion plan.

In the next five years, the firm plans to open five more branches in the country. The return comes at a time of strong entry of international brands into the Argentine market.

The Spanish fashion chain returning to Argentina after more than 20 years: what it is and where it will open its first store

The context of a new entry

In recent months, brands such as Dolce & Gabbana, Kiabi, Victoria’s Secret, Decathlon, and The North Face have also arrived or announced their arrival. Mango joins this wave of re-entry of global players into the local retail market.

The brand was founded in Barcelona in 1984 and had already been present in Argentina. It first landed in 1998 in some of the main shopping malls in Buenos Aires.

However, in 2003 it closed its stores and withdrew from the country due to the effects of the 2001 crisis. Years later, it returned to bet on the market, albeit with a different format.

Between 2018 and 2021, its products were sold through Falabella. When the Chilean chain ceased operations in the country, Mango also lost its physical local presence in 2021.

The next step for H&M in the same shopping center

Following in Mango's footsteps, the Swedish chain H&M is also preparing to open its official store in Alto Palermo. The inauguration is scheduled for the first half of 2027.

The operation is progressing alongside IRSA, the main shopping center operator in the country, and will continue under the management of Hola Moda, the Panamanian operator that manages the brand in several Latin American markets.

Although H&M already has a presence in Argentina through outlets, authorized resellers on online platforms, and a chain of hypermarkets, the opening of the official store will mark the formal start of its operations in the country.

With the return of Mango and the announcement of H&M, Alto Palermo is consolidating as one of the key points for the re-entry of major international fashion chains into the Argentine market.

Son demasiadas primeras veces para simplemente ignorarlas. [...] La posibilidad de anular estas elecciones es prácticamente nula". "Ya vimos a muchas personas pagar un precio muy alto por salir a las calles en el calor de la emoción. No lo hagan. Nuestra derrota es solo de un día.
