President Javier Milei celebrated this Wednesday the official confirmation of the apostolic visit of León XIV to Argentina and described the trip as "a historic event for all Argentinians." The Pontiff will arrive in the country between November 8 and 11, after accepting the invitation that the president extended to him at the beginning of this year.
Through a post on his social media, Milei expressed his satisfaction with the decision of the Holy See and confirmed that he has already been officially notified about the papal tour.
"Argentina will welcome the Pope", wrote the head of state, accompanying the message with two lion emojis, referring to the name chosen by the Supreme Pontiff and the symbol he is commonly identified with.
Milei confirmed that the Vatican accepted the Government's invitation
The President explained that the visit will take place following the formal invitation made by Argentina at the beginning of 2026.
"I was officially notified that Argentina will receive the Apostolic Visit of His Holiness León XIV, accepting the invitation we made at the beginning of the year," he stated.
Additionally, he confirmed the planned dates for the tour and emphasized the importance of the event.
"Between November 8 and 11, we will welcome the Holy Father to our country. A historic visit for all Argentinians", Milei asserted.

This will be León XIV's first visit and the return of a Pope after 39 years
The Vatican's confirmation will mark the first trip of León XIV to Argentina since the beginning of his pontificate and will end a nearly four-decade absence of papal visits to the country.
The last time a Supreme Pontiff visited Argentina was John Paul II, in April 1987. Since then, the entire pontificate of Francis, the first Argentine and Latin American Pope in history, has passed, who never returned to the country during his papacy.
The tour of León XIV will include various pastoral and institutional activities and will be part of a journey through several South American countries.
The Government is already preparing the operation to receive the Pontiff
Following the official confirmation, the Casa Rosada began organizing preparations for the visit.
Official sources indicated that the Government will form an interministerial committee in the coming days responsible for coordinating all aspects of the trip under the direct supervision of President Milei.
Participating will be the General Secretariat of the Presidency, the Chief of Cabinet, the Foreign Ministry, the Ministry of Human Capital, the Ministry of Security, and various technical areas responsible for protocol, ceremonial, logistics, transportation, health, and organization of public events.
Additionally, there will be ongoing coordination with the governments of Buenos Aires City, Buenos Aires Province, and Córdoba, jurisdictions that would play a central role in the itinerary of the Holy Father and in security operations.
A tour that had been anticipated weeks ago
The official confirmation reaffirmed reports indicating that the Holy See had been working for months on a South American tour that would include Uruguay, Argentina, and Peru.
According to the planning known so far, León XIV will spend three days in Argentine territory and will carry out activities in Buenos Aires, Luján, and Córdoba, although the definitive schedule will be announced by the Vatican and the national Government in the coming weeks.
The visit will be one of the most important institutional and religious events of the year and will mark the return of a Pope to Argentina after 39 years, in an event that the Government considers of enormous relevance both for the country and for millions of Catholic faithful.
