The president Donald Trump addressed the UN General Assembly in New York on Tuesday. In his speech, he accused the UN Human Rights Council of ignoring the persecution of Christians and pressured on immigration.

"The cowardly hypocrites of the Human Rights Council have little to say about the persecution of Christians or the crimes of the world's most repressive regimes, but they want the United States to open its borders to gangs and criminals from the most dangerous places in the world," he stated before world leaders.

"There is no human right to illegal immigration, but there is the right to remain a sovereign nation, and we want to continue being a sovereign nation, and you should too," the president added.

Then, the president mentioned the successful operation by the Marines in Caracas that culminated with dictator Nicolás Maduro being transferred along with his wife to a cell in a federal prison in New York, which led to the signing of "the largest oil agreement in history" between the United States and Venezuela. "It was a war. To the victor belong the spoils," Trump justified.

"The United States will no longer allow threats to the United States to gain ground anywhere in the Western Hemisphere and, if necessary, we will use our unmatched military power to secure the vital national interests of the United States," he continued.

Turning to Cuba, Trump indicated that its communist government faces "the greatest pressure it has ever had" and predicted its downfall. "Communism will never reach the United States, but freedom will come to Cuba," he reinforced.

Trump also targeted other international organizations in his speech. He urged other nations to withdraw from the International Criminal Court, which he described as a tribunal full of evil people, and criticized UNESCO, pointing out that its promotion of mass immigration is destroying the cultural heritage that the agency was created to protect.

During his nearly two years in office, Trump has denounced the murder of Christians in Nigeria, ordering the Pentagon to intervene militarily in African territory. In November 2025, U.S. Armed Forces attacked ISIS terrorists in coordination with Nigerian authorities, and in May of this year, they participated in an operation to take down one of the most wanted ISIS terrorists, Abu-Bilal al-Minuki.

At the same time, Trump has pressured European leaders to secure their borders and protect the Old Continent from immigration. During a state visit to Scotland in July 2025, the Republican leader stated that "immigration is killing Europe" and, at the NATO summit in Turkey in July 2026, he told his peers that if they are not careful with immigration and energy policy, "they will no longer have a Europe," citing the case of Ceuta in Spain.

Trump has been exposing the UN since the first time he delivered a speech before the General Assembly in 2017. That year, he said it was "a massive source of shame for the United Nations" that governments with atrocious human rights records were part of the Human Rights Council. Two months later, he ordered then-ambassador Nikki Haley to withdraw from that body.

At the UN summit in 2018, Trump called the council "a deep shame for this institution, which protects perpetrators of atrocious human rights while attacking the United States and its many friends". On February 4, 2025, when the mogul returned to the White House for a second term, he signed Executive Order 14199, ordering the U.S. to stop participating in the council and withhold its share of funding.
