FIFA dismissed Kevin Lamour, the organization's chief operating officer, following strong criticism he had made against Gianni Infantino and his proposal to modify the commercial structure of major international competitions.

Through a statement, the organization informed its council members about the decision and noted that it was made “after a careful consideration and with great respect for Kevin.” It also thanked him for his two years of service and wished him success in his professional future.

Lamour had questioned Infantino's project

The departure of the 46-year-old French leader occurred three weeks after his statements against Infantino regarding the project called FIFA Forward Enterprise (FFE).

The initiative included the creation of a new entity aimed at managing the commercial and operational aspects of the World Cup and other tournaments organized by FIFA. Within the project, the sale of approximately 20% of the new structure to private capital was planned.

Infantino ultimately abandoned the proposal after receiving strong criticism. However, the episode also had political consequences ahead of the FIFA Congress in March 2027, where the leader will seek to secure a fourth consecutive term.

Lamour had defined the FFE as “the project of one person,” in a direct reference to the FIFA president. He also called for international football leaders to review the decisions made around the initiative.

“If that means I lose my job, so be it. I will understand and respect that decision. At least I will sleep peacefully tonight,” the official had stated.
