The story of Argentine football has just added a new record. Aitxuri Isasmendi, forward for El Cañón, needed only three seconds to score against Nación, in the Marplatense League, establishing the fastest mark recorded in an official tournament with film backing.

The goal came practically from the locker room. As soon as referee Ariel Mustafá blew the whistle to start the match at the Mario Della Torre stadium, Isasmendi noticed that the local goalkeeper was off his line and decided to shoot directly from his own half. The ball sailed over the goalkeeper and ended up in the net for the unexpected 1-0.

The 21-year-old attacker not only opened the match in an unusual way but then scored again to give his team a 2-1 victory, a result that also allowed them to stay at the top of Zone C with perfect points.

The play, however, was not solely the result of improvisation. Isasmendi revealed that he had already discussed with his coach the possibility of taking advantage of the advanced position of one of the opposing goalkeepers. "My coach and I had talked about another goalkeeper who steps up, and that when the match starts I could try. I tried once at the beginning of the year, and it hit the crossbar. This time I saw him off his line and told my teammate to let me. When the referee blew the whistle, I shot right away", he explained in an interview with Olé.

The uniqueness of the goal is that, despite its speed, it was recorded on video. "I was lucky that it was being filmed. The coach usually records to analyze the game. It just so happened that it was being filmed, by the coach's son", the player revealed.

With those three seconds, Isasmendi moved from first place the goals scored in four seconds. Among them was Julián Rodríguez Seguer's goal for Liniers against J.J. Urquiza in 2023, and Luis Torres' goal for Acassuso against Juventud Unida in 1996. In the First Division, the historical record still belongs to Carlos Dantón Seppaquercia, who scored for Gimnasia La Plata against Huracán in five seconds in 1979.

For Isasmendi, the magnitude of what happened only began to become evident after the match. "It was a surprise, an attempt like in a normal match, we celebrated it with the guys and I didn't expect it to have such an impact. I keep getting messages", he shared.

And he summarized the scene with the disbelief of someone who still hadn't fully processed what he had achieved: "I couldn't believe it. I shot and the ball wasn't coming down, when I saw it drop, I ran to celebrate with all the boys. A huge joy because you start winning the match almost from the locker room".
