The regime of Lula da Silva in Brazil has once again attacked President Javier Milei, after the Argentine leader harshly criticized the socialist dictator.

In this context, the Brazilian Minister of Finance, Dario Durigan, insulted Milei, in statements that generated strong political and diplomatic repercussions.

During an interview on Radio Jornal de Pernambuco, the Lula regime official referred to the Argentine president as a “clown” and questioned the economic situation of the country.

“The clown of the president of Argentina came to Brazil and spoke about Brazil, when Argentina's country risk is much higher, public debt is much higher, and inflation is much higher,” Durigan stated.

The Brazilian minister's remarks came in a context of increasing international visibility for Milei and his successful economic reforms, which have been highlighted by various market actors and international organizations.

In his intervention, Durigan attempted to downplay the impact of Brazil's economic crisis by stating that one should not “follow the current of those people who say this will turn into an apocalypse.”

Milei's Visit to Brazil

Bilateral tension intensified following Milei's recent visit to São Paulo, where he participated in the proclamation of Flávio Bolsonaro as a presidential candidate for the October elections.

At that event, the Argentine leader harshly criticized the Brazilian president, whom he defined as a “prisoner” and “thief,” in addition to accusing him of wasting public resources.

In that same vein, Milei warned about the “Lula risk” in the financial market, questioning the impact of the socialist policies promoted by the Brazilian government. He also expressed his support for Flávio Bolsonaro, considering him “the only candidate capable of stopping the socialist garbage” at the polls.

In response, the Brazilian government could not withstand the criticism and opted for a formal diplomatic response. The Foreign Ministry decided to summon its ambassador in Buenos Aires, Julio Bitelli, for consultations and to call in the Argentine ambassador in Brasília, Daniel Raimondi.

This is not the first time the Lula regime has insulted Milei. A few weeks ago, Guilherme Boulos, the current Secretary General of the Presidency of Brazil, referred to the Argentine president as an "idiot" after it was revealed that he would visit his country.
