An unprecedented decision in Brazilian football has sparked a strong debate among players, clubs, officials, and sports law specialists. The protagonist is Víctor Gabriel, a player for Inter de Porto Alegre, who was suspended indefinitely after causing a serious injury to Gabriel Pec, a forward for Cruzeiro.

The Superior Court of Sports Justice of Brazil determined that the defender will remain ineligible until the injured player receives medical clearance and is fit to return to training. The sanction, however, has a maximum limit of 180 days.

The peculiarity of the ruling lies in the fact that the duration of the punishment was not established by a fixed number of matches or dates. Instead, it is directly linked to the recovery of the player who suffered the injury.

The incident occurred during the match in which Cruzeiro won 2-1 against Inter de Porto Alegre. In a battle for the ball, Víctor Gabriel made a harsh tackle on Gabriel Pec, an action that led to the immediate expulsion of the defender with a direct red card.

Initially, attention was focused on the injury suffered by the forward. However, subsequent medical examinations confirmed the seriousness of the situation: Pec suffered a fracture in his left tibia and will need to stay away from activity for several months.

In light of this situation, the Brazilian sports tribunal considered that a conventional suspension was not sufficient given the consequences of the infraction.
