The relationship between River and the Argentine Football Association (AFA) is going through one of its most tense moments, and the differences between both institutions are leading to new public clashes. In the midst of this scenario, Stéfano Di Carlo spoke out about the choice of La Bombonera as the venue for the friendly match between the Argentine National Team and Uruguay, and made his stance clear regarding the historical link of the national team with the Monumental Stadium.

In an interview with Radio La Red, the president of the Millonario clarified that he has no issue with the match being held at Boca's stadium, although he questioned the background of the decision and pointed fingers at Claudio Tapia, the disreputable head of the AFA. "I am not bothered that Argentina and Uruguay is played at La Bombonera. Obviously the home of the National Team was, is, and will always be River. Then there are exceptional circumstances that occur; many times it has also been held outside of River and no, I don't find it resonant", he expressed.

However, the leader marked a difference compared to other occasions when the Albiceleste left the Monumental, leaving a criticism that seemed directed at the management of Argentine football: "Sometimes when people think they are more important than history, the strength of institutions, they make a mistake".

Di Carlo confirmed that the home of the Argentine National Team is the Monumental Stadium

Di Carlo deepened his stance by emphasizing the importance that River holds in the identity of the national team. "The bond between River and the National Team is indivisible. The centrality that River and its stadium have regarding the National Team is part of the history, of the identity of Argentine football and the national team. Anyone who believes they are above that history and that strength, I think makes a mistake", he stated.

The friendly match between Argentina and Uruguay will take place on Friday November 13 and will be the first of two commitments that Lionel Scaloni's team will face during the next FIFA date. The designation of La Bombonera as the venue for the River Plate classic has generated discontent in Núñez, where they believe that the choice of venue is influenced by the conflict they have with the AFA. Meanwhile, the second match will be against Costa Rica, in Córdoba.

The possible return of Ramón Díaz

On another note, the River president was also asked about the possibility of Ramón Díaz returning to the club to begin a fourth cycle as coach, although he avoided giving signals about a potential negotiation. "I have no relationship with Ramón Díaz. Simply when we arrived in 2013, I was in charge of the communication department and had two or three coffees to appoint the press chief of the squad. I have not spoken to him since then", he explained.

Additionally, he referred to the pressure from fans demanding the return of the Riojan and urged caution when making sports decisions. "We will always do what is best for the club, but what cannot overwhelm you in these places is the pressure and the widespread madness", he concluded.
