The Elder Scrolls 6 has once again been left out of an important presentation from Xbox, and uncertainty among players continues to grow. Eight years after its official announcement, the highly anticipated successor to Skyrim still shows no concrete progress or a release date.

The situation gained relevance again after the Xbox Games Showcase, where the RPG from Bethesda did not appear. Meanwhile, Microsoft attempted to reassure about the state of development.

Eight years later, The Elder Scrolls 6 still has no concrete news

The Elder Scrolls 6 was announced on June 10, 2018, during Bethesda's conference at E3 in Los Angeles.

That first teaser barely showed a setting and confirmed the existence of the project. Since then, official information about the game has been minimal, and fans are still waiting for a full presentation.

The absence of the title at the last Xbox Games Showcase has once again fueled doubts about when a significant revelation will finally arrive.

What Microsoft said about the development of The Elder Scrolls 6

In an interview with Variety, Xbox's content director, Matt Booty, briefly discussed Bethesda's project.

The executive stated that he visited the studio, saw the game in action alongside Todd Howard, and claimed that development "is going well."

Additionally, he hinted that when Bethesda decides to officially show The Elder Scrolls 6, it could mean that the release is not too far away.

"We want to wait for the right moment," Booty explained. He also noted that when a game is publicly presented, it must be ready to fulfill the promise of arriving soon on the market.

Todd Howard had already acknowledged that the announcement was too early

The lack of news is not a surprise for those closely following the project. In March 2026, Todd Howard joked about the topic again and suggested that everyone should act as if Bethesda had never announced the game.

Months earlier, he had also admitted that he would have preferred not to have revealed The Elder Scrolls 6 so far in advance.

In November of last year, Howard stated that development was still "very far away." Later, he confirmed that a large part of the studio is already working on the project and that they were approaching an important internal milestone.

Why Bethesda is still taking its time with The Elder Scrolls 6

Howard has repeatedly defended the decision to proceed without rushing. As he explained, the goal is to avoid a premature release that does not meet players' expectations.

The director compared development to a meal that needs the right cooking time to achieve the best possible result.

Meanwhile, fans of The Elder Scrolls 6 continue to wait for more concrete signals about one of the most anticipated video games in the industry.
