The U.S. administration mobilized humanitarian aid, specialized personnel, and logistical resources to assist the areas affected by the double earthquake of magnitudes 7.2 and 7.5 that shook Venezuela
On June 24, Venezuelawas shaken by a devastating geological phenomenon known as “double seismic”, an unusual sequence of two major earthquakes in the same area with an interval of just 39 seconds.
The first quake reached a magnitude of 7.2, followed almost immediately by a second impact of 7.5. As explained by geologist Andrés Folguera, this phenomenon is extremely damaging because the second hit occurs on already weakened structures, leaving "no margin to evacuate between one shake and the next".
This natural catastrophe has exposed the “huge institutional and economic fragility of Venezuela”, a scenario where the lack of investment has turned a scientific event into a social tragedy of epic proportions.
In light of the magnitude of the disaster and the inability of local response, President Donald Trump has stepped forward with undeniable decisiveness. Through an official statement from the State Department, it was announced that “The Trump administration is mobilizing a strong response to the tragic earthquakes in Venezuela”.
The president immediately authorized the allocation of “significant financial aid” and the deployment of elite teams, working hand in hand with the interim Venezuelan authorities to address the most urgent needs.
The U.S. intervention spares no resources or military logistics. The State Department has mobilized a total of 150 million dollars in assistance.
This amount breaks down into 50 million dollars allocated for bilateral grants to strategic partners on the ground such as World Vision, Samaritan's Purse, Catholic Relief Services, International Medical Corps, the International Organization for Migration, and the World Food Program. Additionally, 100 million dollars have been contributed to the common fund of OCHA for Venezuela.
Disaster Assistance Response Team (DART): A group of top-level experts tasked with assessing conditions and leading the U.S. government response.
Urban Search and Rescue Teams: Activated from the fire departments of Fairfax County, Virginia, and Los Angeles County, California. These teams include firefighters, doctors, structural engineers, and canine search specialists.
Department of War (DoW) and SOUTHCOM: In a display of logistical efficiency, the Department of War is using its fixed-wing and rotary-wing aircraft for the transport of personnel and vital aid, leveraging military resources already deployed in the region under the coordination of U.S. Southern Command (SOUTHCOM).
Destruction in Venezuela
The State Department has made it clear that “The Trump Administration has no greater priority than the safety of Americans”, enabling assistance lines 24 hours a day (such as +1-202-501-4444) and recommending enrollment in the STEP program for all its citizens in the area.
While geologists like Gustavo Ortiz warn that aftershocks will continue to worsen the situation of already damaged infrastructure, the United States maintains its “firm commitment to help Venezuela recover”, demonstrating that, under the leadership of Donald Trump, the region has a determined protector against chaos.
