The National Meteorological Service issued a yellow alert for storms covering areas of seven provinces for this Thursday, September 10. The involved areas are Formosa, Misiones, Santiago del Estero, Catamarca, La Rioja, Córdoba, and San Luis.

According to the agency, rain and storms of varying intensity are expected. Some may be locally strong, with heavy rainfall in a short time, hail, intense electrical activity, and gusts that could exceed 70 kilometers per hour.

In Formosa, Santiago del Estero, Catamarca, La Rioja, and San Luis, accumulated precipitation is anticipated to be between 15 and 30 millimeters. In Córdoba and Misiones, the values could rise to a range of 20 to 50 millimeters.

The duration of the alert varies by jurisdiction. In Formosa, it is in effect from Thursday morning until Friday morning. In La Rioja, it extends from Thursday afternoon until Friday morning.

Alert times in each province

For Catamarca and San Luis, the warning begins on Thursday night and lasts until Friday morning. In Córdoba, Misiones, and Santiago del Estero, the alert also activates from Thursday night and continues until Friday morning.

These weather conditions can cause traffic disruptions, flooding in urban areas, and risks for outdoor activities. Therefore, the SMN reiterates the importance of following safety recommendations while the phenomenon lasts.

Among the main measures, the agency suggests avoiding leaving home unless necessary. It also recommends not taking out the trash and keeping drains and gutters clean to facilitate water runoff.

Another key precaution is to disconnect appliances and cut off the electricity supply if water enters the home. Additionally, it is advised to close doors and windows and stay away from them during the storm.

Recommendations to reduce risks

It is essential to remove or secure objects that the wind could carry away, such as pots, awnings, or outdoor furniture. Those outdoors should seek shelter immediately in a building, house, or closed vehicle.

The yellow alert indicates that the phenomenon can be dangerous and cause moderate damage. Although it does not reach orange or red levels, it requires attention and preventive measures from the population.

The National Meteorological Service is constantly monitoring the evolution of these systems and will update the warning if conditions change. It is encouraged to check the official forecast periodically for the most recent information.

In this context, provincial and municipal authorities usually reinforce prevention operations, especially in areas susceptible to flooding or falling trees. Citizen collaboration is essential to minimize impacts.

Those who must travel on routes or rural roads in the affected provinces should take extra precautions, reduce speed, and avoid low-lying areas or those with a history of flooding. The combination of intense rain and strong gusts increases the risk of accidents.

The phenomenon is part of a typical pattern for early spring, when thermal changes favor the development of storms. Nevertheless, the intensity expected for this Thursday justifies the alert issued by the official agency.
