This Friday, July 3, the National Meteorological Service issued yellow and orange alerts for extreme cold affecting Buenos Aires and 20 other provinces. The conditions of low temperatures pose a danger, especially for the most vulnerable groups.

In the northwest of the province of Buenos Aires, the orange alert is in effect, the most serious of the two. This indicates that temperatures can be very dangerous for health, particularly for children, the elderly, and people with chronic illnesses.

For its part, the yellow alert extends to Chubut, Neuquén, Río Negro, Tucumán, Mendoza, La Pampa, San Luis, Córdoba, Santa Fe, Entre Ríos, Buenos Aires -including the AMBA-, San Juan, La Rioja, Catamarca, Santiago del Estero, Corrientes, Misiones, Chaco, Formosa, Jujuy, and Salta.

What to expect in the City and the surrounding area

For the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires and Greater Buenos Aires, a minimum of -1 degree and a maximum that will barely reach 10 degrees is forecasted. These figures are below the usual for this time of year.

The intense cold requires taking precautions. Avoiding prolonged exposure to the outdoors is one of the main recommendations from meteorological authorities.

If you have to go out, it's best to dress in several layers of lightweight clothing that help retain body heat. Generating movement, such as walking or moving your limbs, helps to warm up naturally.

Keeping the house heated safely is also key. It's important to avoid sudden temperature changes when entering and exiting rooms.
