President Daniel Noboa confirmed on the night of November 10 the transfer of Jorge Glas, former vice president convicted of corruption, to the new Cárcel del Encuentro in Santa Elena.
"Welcome to your new home. Other criminals will arrive soon," wrote the president on his X account, sharing images of the inmate in an orange uniform.
This move is part of the government's plan to regain full control of the prison system and isolate high-risk criminals. In this first phase, 300 inmates linked to criminal organizations were transferred, just one day after the massacre in Machala.
