The former Republican Senate leader and senator from Kentucky, Mitch McConnell, announced on Monday afternoon that he has returned to his activities in the Upper Chamber after several months of absence due to a fall at home that left him with health issues.

McConnell was hospitalized on June 14 and only last month did doctors discharge him to return home to continue his recovery and undergo more therapies. The 84-year-old politician, known for his rivalry with President Donald Trump, ignores the calls for renewal from Republican voters and continues to cling to his seat.

McConnell stated in a post on X that he will cast his first vote this Monday and that he is still recovering. "Today I will cast my first vote in the Senate since I suffered a severe fall in June. I am looking forward to returning to the Senate chamber and seeing my colleagues. My recovery has been a long and often frustrating process, and the lingering effects of polio have not made it any easier," he assured.

"I am not yet at 100%, but I have assured Leader [John] Thune that as I continue with physical therapy at my doctors' recommendation, I will do everything I can to be present for the tough votes when our caucus needs me. Elaine and I are very grateful for all the continued good wishes from our fellow Kentuckians, and I am glad to resume regular business on their behalf this month," the senator concluded.

Shortly after his return to the Senate, photos began circulating online showing McConnell's physical limitations and his weak health state. These were taken by journalists who briefly interviewed him, who indicated that the senator's team does not allow him to be filmed.
