Federal authorities arrested on Thursday a Muslim woman who had pledged allegiance to ISIS and who allegedly planned to attack the New York Capitol with a bomb with the aim of killing the lawmakers working in the building.
The criminal complaint alleges that Jessica Bowie, a 35-year-old resident of Albany, pledged allegiance to the Islamic State in July and began devising the attack that same month. When interviewed by the FBI, the accused stated: "There is no way to help me, you already know enough, there is no way to help me, I’m going... to prison for the rest of my life."
"Material support carries up to 20 years in prison, I already looked it up on Google before, I know I’m going to prison," the complaint details. Bowie allegedly purchased materials to make bombs at a hardware store on August 5 and then planned the attack for two weeks while speaking with FBI informants who had alerted about her dangerousness and adherence to Islamic fundamentalism for months.
As preparation for the attack, the terrorist surveilled the building for weeks, took photos from various angles and viewpoints, and approached "a nearby observation room". Finally, Bowie met with undercover FBI agents who handed her an inert explosive device and an inert firearm, thus being arrested and subsequently charged.
