As the specter of military intervention looms, the White House continues to methodically cut off any funding that the communist island may receive

The government of President Donald Trump is going all out against the Cuban dictatorship and imposed more economic sanctions this Thursday. It also announced that it will apply stricter controls for Americans visiting the island to conduct transactions with companies that are owned by the regime or affiliated with it.

In total, there are 10 state-owned companies in mining, metals, and construction penalized by this new package of sanctions. The leadership of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP), an entity responsible for sponsoring "a vast subversive network in the United States aimed at identifying, cultivating, and radicalizing" American citizens with the help of the Democratic Party has also been sanctioned by Washington.

"Just a few days ago, the regime attempted to use the centenary of the birth of the communist leader and despot Fidel Castro to revitalize this subversive network, transporting a new brigade of international supporters to Havana to make contacts with regime officials," stated U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio in a statement.

"The Trump administration will not stand idly by while a hostile foreign power seeks to exploit our freedoms —none of which are granted to its own people— through deception and corruption of American citizens with lies, espionage techniques, and other misdeeds, as part of the regime's raison d'être to export Marxism, racial resentment, and communist violence around the world," the official added.

A potential U.S. military intervention, once the economic sanctions cut off all funding to the Cuban regime, could be ordered by Trump at any moment, especially considering that the legislative elections in November are getting closer on the calendar.

The crisis in Cuba worsened and reached significant proportions when Trump overthrew dictator Nicolás Maduro, whose government provided free oil to Havana in exchange for Cuban intelligence agents protecting him and his wife. In turn, the president imposed an oil blockade on the communist island.
