Eight members of Antifa were sentenced this Tuesday to prison terms of at least 50 years after being found guilty of terrorism charges for attacking an ICE detention center in Texas. The leader of the leftist terrorist organization, Benjamin Song, received a sentence of 100 years in prison.

Although the verdicts against the defendants had already been issued in March, the reading of the sentences took place today in Texas courts. During the trial, prosecutors proved that the defendants launched a premeditated terrorist attack on the ICE detention center where they fired fireworks, vandalized property, and opened fire on police officers who responded to the scene. An officer was shot in the neck and miraculously survived.

Benjamin Song, identified as the ringleader of the leftist terrorist entity, received the harshest sentence: a century in prison. Another member of the group, Maricela Rueda, was sentenced to 70 years in prison, while Autumn Hill, Zachary Evetts, Savanna Batten, Meagan Morris, and Elizabeth Soto received sentences of 50 years. Daniel Rolando Sánchez-Estrada was sentenced to 30 years of confinement.

A historic conviction

The attack occurred on July 4 of last year. The defendants were found guilty of charges of rioting, providing material support to terrorists, conspiracy to use and carry explosives, and use of explosives. They were also charged with three counts of attempted murder of an officer, three counts of discharging a firearm during a violent crime, corruptly concealing documents, and conspiracy to destroy evidence.

"The verdict demonstrates that the FBI remains committed to identifying, locating, and dismantling Antifa and its funding networks across the country," stated the FBI director under Trump, Kash Patel, in March. "Acts of violence against our law enforcement will not be tolerated, and we will continue to work to protect communities across the country from domestic terrorism."

In March, Attorney General Pam Bondi noted after the initial verdict that "Antifa is a national terrorist organization that has been allowed to flourish in cities governed by Democrats, but not under Trump's administration."

Another seven individuals involved in the case -Seth Sikes, Nathan Baumann, Joy Gibson, Susan Kent, Rebecca Morgan, Lynette Sharp, and John Thomas- had already pleaded guilty last year to the charge of providing material support to terrorists, receiving lesser sentences.
