Less than three months before the midterm elections, President Donald Trump stated on Monday that Democratic voters in his party's primary elections are choosing "jihadists" "everywhere".
"We have this, either communism or jihadism," Trump explained to reporters in the Oval Office. Following the election of Muslim Zohran Mamdani as mayor of New York last year, the president has characterized Democrats as communists and has denounced the leftward shift of the opposition party.
Trump noted that a friend suggested the term to him, recalling that the person said: "You know, you should actually use the word jihadist because that's what's happening." The Republican mogul indicated that some of the candidates he refers to come from countries like Somalia, such as Democratic Congresswoman from Minnesota, radical Muslim Ilhan Omar.
Trump also cited as an example the anti-Semitic Democratic Senate candidate from Michigan, Abdul El-Sayed, a friend of communist streamer Hasan Piker, whom he labeled as a "hater of Jews and hater of Israel."
