The link between politics and crime is once again troubling the country, after the appearance of images that connect the Morena deputy Pedro Haces with Edgar "N", alias "El Limones", the alleged leader of a criminal cell. The official response did not take long to arrive: Omar García Harfuch, head of the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection, denied any relationship between the two. But the institutional damage was already done.
The controversy arose after photographs were released in which both appear together, accompanied by political messages from the year 2023. Although there is no evidence of crimes committed by the legislator, the closeness between representatives of the ruling party and alleged criminals fuels public distrust.
Harfuch denies relationship but admits investigation for extortion
García Harfuch was clear in stating that the investigation against "El Limones" originated from specific extortion complaints, with no link to any union. The operation focuses on illegal charges to business owners, farmers, and users of wells in the north of the country. According to his words: "For the moment, there is no relationship".
The institutional distancing exists in the discourse. But the very need to clarify it reveals the deterioration of political standards. When an official must publicly deny links between an arrested criminal and a Morena politician, the problem is not only criminal, but structural.

Links with the Sinaloa Cartel and operations in the north
The case is moving forward judicially. A federal judge ordered pretrial detention for Edgar "N", who is currently being held in the Altiplano prison. The Office of the Attorney General of the Republic accuses him of weapons possession and drug-related crimes. In addition, the Financial Intelligence Unit blocked bank accounts due to irregular financial movements.
