Australian MP Jason Virgo, a member of the right-wing One Nation party, generated significant political and media backlash after revealing in the South Australian Parliament that he is in a relationship with a Muslim immigrant from Indonesia.

The legislator even broke down in tears during part of his inaugural speech, where he spoke openly about his personal life and defended many immigrants who come to the country seeking "a better life."

Virgo belongs to the One Nation party, a political force known in Australia for its hardline positions against mass immigration, multiculturalism, and certain policies related to the LGBT agenda. Therefore, his statements surprised many both inside and outside the Australian political arena.

During his parliamentary address, the MP confirmed that he has been "openly gay" for years, although he explained that he had never made his sexual orientation a central part of his political activity. "I prefer people to discover these things naturally," he stated during the speech.

The MP also spoke about his partner, Rhisang Alfarid, whom he described as "the love of my life." Virgo explained that Alfarid was born in Indonesia, is Muslim, and currently lives as an Australian citizen. The legislator publicly thanked the support he received from his partner during the election campaign.

Additionally, the MP asserted that a large part of his circle of friends is made up of immigrants from China, India, and the Philippines. Virgo stated that he admires many migrants because "they are simply seeking a better life," although he clarified that he still believes that immigration levels in Australia have been "excessive" in recent years.

The situation also drew attention due to the legislator's political past. According to Australian media, Virgo had previously been part of the Labor Party and also collaborated with movements related to LGBT rights before joining One Nation.

The episode opened a new debate in Australia about the internal contradictions within some conservative movements and how certain political sectors are evolving regarding immigration and social issues. Several critics accused Virgo of ideological inconsistency and of betraying both his political party and his voters.
