The terrorist regime in Iran announced on Thursday the execution of three people convicted of their alleged participation in the anti-government protests of January, in a context of strong state repression following the demonstrations.

Among those executed is the young wrestling champion Saleh Mohammadi, along with Mehdi Ghasemi and Saeid Davudi.

As reported by the regime, “the three convicted were hanged in the city of Qom after being convicted of murder and carrying out operational actions on behalf of Israel and the United States.” The executions were carried out after the Supreme Court upheld the sentences

Mohammadi's case had gained notoriety for his sporting profile. In 2024, the young man had won a bronze medal representing Iran at the Saytiyev International Cup, held in Krasnoyarsk, Russia

However, he was sentenced to death along with the other two defendants for the crime of moharebeh (enmity against God), a legal figure used in the country to punish crimes related to public safety, Islam and espionage.

According to the regime's version, the executions were carried out after “the legal proceedings were completed, in the presence of defense attorneys.”

The authorities maintain that the events that led to the convictions occurred on January 8, when the defendants allegedly “attacked two security officers with knife weapons” in different parts of Qom, causing their death.

They also indicated that the three were arrested in security and intelligence operations, and that they “confessed” their participation in the events during the judicial process

The executions take place in the context of the massive anti-government protests that took place in January, demanding the end of the Islamic Republic and greater freedom.

These demonstrations were contained by savage state repression. According to the official report, the protests left 3,117 dead, while various human rights organizations raised the number to more than 30,000 Iranians killed by regime forces
