President Javier Milei traveled to the nuclear aircraft carrier USS Nimitz to participate in the joint naval exercises Passex 2026, in a strong sign of alignment with the United States and of strengthening military cooperation in the South Atlantic.
The visit, organized by the Southern Command (SOUTHCOM) and the U.S. Embassy, included the president landing on the deck of the ship —one of the largest and most sophisticated in the world—aboard a Grumman C-2 Greyhound aircraft. This was an unprecedented scene in recent Argentine politics, which marks a change of direction in terms of defense and
international relations.

activity was part of Operation Passex 2026, a series of joint maneuvers that bring together Argentine and U.S. naval forces with the objective of improving interoperability and the level of
training.
During the exercises, the following were carried out:
Air defense simulations with F-18 fighters Operations with
MH-60 Seahawk helicopters
Tactical maneuvers in the formation of ships
Visit, Record and Capture Exercises
Exploration flights with P3C Orion aircraft The Argentine Navy participated with
destroyers, corvettes and
ocean patrols, in a coordinated deployment together with the USS Nimitz and the destroyer
USS Gridley.
A further step in the Government's international strategy
The presence of Milei on the aircraft carrier is not an isolated event, but part of a clear foreign policy: strengthening the alliance with the United States and repositioning Argentina within the Western Bloc
.
Since his inauguration, the President has promoted a defense cooperation agenda that includes strategic projects such as the Integrated Naval Base in Ushuaia, designed as a key point for access to Antarctica and funded in part with U.S. support.
This approach seeks to recover military capabilities, modernize the Armed Forces and guarantee Argentina's presence in areas of geopolitical interest.
Argentina reintegrates into the Western world
The Passex maneuvers resume a historic tradition of bilateral cooperation, known as “Gringo-Gaucho” exercises,
which had been relegated in previous years.
The return to this type of initiative represents a strategic shift: Argentina is once again actively integrating with one of the most advanced naval forces in the world, raising its operational standards and strengthening its capacity
to respond to global threats.
