The United States ambassador to Argentina, Peter Lamelas, said that the Donald Trump administration is willing to “do what is necessary” to accompany the reform process promoted by Javier Milei and consolidate the country as a strategic partner.
During a presentation at the Atlantic Council, the diplomat emphasized Washington's political and economic support for the course adopted by Milei's administration.
“Structural reform is never easy and will never be easy in Argentina, it requires discipline, consistency and political will, the United States recognizes that effort, and will do whatever it takes to help Argentina to be a committed partner on this path; that's what Scott Bessent, and Trump, said, and I repeat it now,” he said.

The meeting, focused on how to “accelerate Argentina's economic takeoff”, brought together officials and leaders from the private sector, including the Minister of Economy, Luis “Toto” Caputo; the Secretary of Finance, Pablo Quirno; the president of Exim Bank, John Jovanovic; and the head of YPF, Horacio Marín, as well as executives from international companies
.
In his speech, Lamelas used a metaphor to describe the country's current moment: “It's raining, but Argentina's future is going to be more precious than today,” he said in Spanish, referring to the process of economic transition.
The ambassador summarized his message in recognition of the Milei Government for having created the “right conditions” to attract investment.
In this regard, he affirmed that the country is going through a “turning point” and stressed that the focus will be on concrete results.
“Serious investors observe macroeconomic stabilization, the modernization of regulations, the commitment to global integration and the opening of markets; that's why they move from curiosity to conviction and commitment,” he said.
In line with that diagnosis, he argued that Argentina is sending “signals of discipline and transparency” and listed sectors with immediate growth potential, such as energy, mining, technology, agribusiness, transport, infrastructure, telecommunications and financial services.

The trade agreement
also highlighted the relevance of the trade agreement between Argentina and the United States signed in February, aimed at reducing tariffs and facilitating capital flow, especially in areas such as mining and lithium. “Implementing is everything, that's why Argentina's seriousness matters; from Luis Toto Caputo and his economic team to my friend Pablo Quirno, and Milei's reform effort, there is a clear objective of restoring stability, unlocking growth and attracting investment. Markets don't demand perfection, but seriousness and direction,” he said.
In this context, Lamelas noted that during Milei's administration, fiscal balance was achieved in 2024 and 2025, and anticipated that the United States is prepared to support the process with funding through agencies such as the Exim Bank and the International Development Finance Corporation (DFC), expanding access to credit to strengthen the bilateral economic link.
