After not renewing his contract, Memphis Depay will sue Corinthians

The future of Memphis Depay took an unexpected turn in Brazil. Corinthians announced that it will not continue its association with the 32-year-old forward, whose contract expired at the end of July.

The São Paulo institution explained that the decision is exclusively due to financial reasons and that the goal is to preserve the economic stability of the club.

However, the player's version is different. Depay publicly expressed his dissatisfaction and claimed that the management had reached an agreement to extend his contract for two more years.

“Very disappointed to read that Corinthians decided not to honor our agreement reached to extend my contract for two more years,” the Dutchman expressed on his social media.

The former Barcelona and Atlético de Madrid player maintained that the renewal had been agreed upon by various areas of the institution.

As he explained, the commitment had been explicitly agreed upon by both the president and the sports, legal, and financial sectors of Corinthians.

Depay stated that, subsequently, some individuals within the club decided to backtrack on what was agreed.

The forward also hinted that the conflict could have legal consequences and anticipated that he would provide more details publicly in the coming days.

“I have always respected the club throughout the process, but now I feel compelled to react firmly to defend my interests,” he stated.
