A new staggered strike of 23 days at the University of Buenos Aires (UBA) will affect the normal development of classes over the coming weeks, harming thousands of students.

In response to the violent measure announced by the teaching and non-teaching unions, the Undersecretary of University Policies, Alejandro Álvarez, harshly criticized the decision and pointed out the impact it will have on students, who will once again be taken hostage by leftist organizations.

The Association of Teachers of the University of Buenos Aires (ADUBA) and the Association of UBA Staff (APUBA) announced a scheme of strike actions that will begin on Monday, September 21, and will extend until Thursday, October 22, with strike days distributed among different faculties and departments of the University.

The information about the schedule was released after the failure of wage negotiations with the unions, which rejected the increases proposed by the government of Javier Milei.

In parallel, the unions demand compliance with the University Financing Law, an initiative irregularly approved by Congress, as it does not explain the source of funds for the budget increase, and has the sole objective of achieving the collapse of the State to destroy the economic plan of the government.

In this regard, Álvarez expressed through his account on X: "We ask the unions not to prevent classes. If they want to protest, let them do so, but do not take students hostage. This is how they responded to us, just 10 minutes after leaving: 23 days of strike."

The official reiterated his criticism of the measure and the damage caused to those attending universities. "They are destroying education, punishing students, and putting their party interests above the right to study. The unions are destroying education", he stated.

The protest will take place in a rotating manner. On the first day, Monday, September 21, the measure will affect the Rectorate. It will then continue on Tuesday, September 22, at the Faculty of Medicine, Wednesday, September 23, at the Faculty of Architecture, Design and Urbanism, and Thursday, September 24, at Pharmacy and Biochemistry. Friday, September 25, will be the turn of Engineering.

In the following days, the scheme will reach other academic units and departments, including Exact and Natural Sciences, the Rojas Cultural Center, Economic Sciences, Law, Dentistry, the National College of Buenos Aires, DOSUBA, Psychology, Social Sciences, and the Carlos Pellegrini School.

The measure will continue throughout October and will include strike days in Philosophy and Letters, Veterinary Sciences, the CBC, Agronomy, the Lanari-Vaccarezza Institute, the Roffo Institute, and the Hospital de Clínicas, among other departments.
