The Argentine delegation faces a new day full of activity on Wednesday, September 16, at the Santa Fe 2026 South American Games, which will run until September 26. With 658 athletes competing, the national team added more podiums during the fourth official day and will still have several opportunities to increase their medal count throughout the afternoon and evening.
Catalina Serio wins gold in modern pentathlon
One of the main news stories of the day came from the women's modern pentathlon, where Catalina Serio became the South American champion. The athlete from Chubut, just 16 years old, secured the gold medal, while Nerea Luna completed a notable Argentine performance with the bronze.
Serio arrived in Santa Fe as one of the young prospects of the national team and ended up on the top of the podium. The women's competition also featured Martina Armanazqui, while the men's individual final will take place in the afternoon.
Argentina advances in fencing
Fencing also delivered important results during the early hours. In men's team sabre, Argentina defeated Colombia 45-40 in the quarterfinals and then won a tight 45-43 against Venezuela in the semifinals.
In women's team foil, there was also a national celebration against the Colombian team. Argentina won 42-37 in the quarterfinals and kept another chance open to fight for medals during the day.
Argentine results in bocce
In bocce, the duo formed by Gabriel Crespi and Candela Molina lost 8-7 to Chile in the Petanque semifinals. There was also a defeat for Milagros Pereyra and Renzo Farías, who lost 12-5 to the Chilean team in the mixed Punta Raffa Volo semifinal.
Nevertheless, activity continues in the afternoon. In team sports, the women's volleyball team will face Chile, while brothers Tomás and Nicolás Capogrosso will compete against Brazil in one of the men's beach volleyball semifinals. Later, La Garra will debut against Colombia at 7:30 PM, while Argentina will also have activity in softball.
The South American Games bring together more than 4,000 athletes from 15 countries and have their main venues in Rosario, Santa Fe, and Rafaela. The competition will continue until Saturday, September 26, with Argentina aiming to remain among the delegations with the highest number of medals.
