The Round of 32 is entering its final stretch. In the first match of the last round of matchups, after drawing 1-1 in 120 minutes, Egypt defeated Australia 4-2 in penalties and secured their place in the Round of 16, where they could face the reigning world champion, the Argentine National Team.

The match would start with an African team controlling possession, but without the danger that the Oceanians would generate, who just 4 minutes in, would come close to scoring with a powerful shot from Cristian Volpato that hit the crossbar.

Despite this warning, the Pharaohs would not give up on their game plan and would quickly take the lead. At 12, after a set piece play that was thwarted, the ball would reach Karim Hafez, who would connect with the head of Emam Ashour to score the 1-0 lead.

With the score against them, and taking advantage of a drop in their opponent's rhythm, the "Socceroos" would start to progressively press more in search of the equalizer, although during the first half they would not manage to move the meter.

In the second half, just seconds after the referee's whistle, Egypt would almost extend their lead with a dangerous chance from Omar Marmoush, who would shoot wide.

On their part, Australia would not take long to respond and would find the long-awaited equalizer. At 54, Aiden O'Neill from a set piece would send the ball into the small area, which would enter the goal due to an unintentional deflection from Mohamed Hany.

After the goal, the match would enter a tense calm that would last for more than half an hour, with constant back and forth between the areas, but without clear opportunities for either team. When it seemed that the story would go into extra time without any excitement, the Africans would manage one last notable chance near the end: at 93 of 95, Mohammed Salah would cross for Rami Rabia, who would head the ball towards the goal, but goalkeeper Patrick Beach would save his team with a miraculous punch.

While each team would have their moments to win the match, the additional half hour was completely inconsequential, with the most notable aspect being the substitutions in preparation for the inevitable penalty shootout, including the goalkeeper change for the Australian team (Beach for Mathew Ryan).
