The governor of Catamarca, Raúl Jalil, received representatives from the company Pistachos del NOA S.A. to advance a new agricultural project aimed at transforming the Belén department into a productive hub for pistachios.

The initiative includes a first stage of cultivation on 100 hectares in La Ciénaga, a strategic area in western Catamarca with ideal conditions for this type of production.

Strong private investment and job creation in Catamarca

The project aims to combine:

  • private investment

  • regional development

  • job creation

  • productive diversification

  • export potential

During the meeting, led by the company's president, Leonardo Daniel Jeifetz, the technical and operational work that has already begun in the area was detailed.

Currently, the following are being carried out:

  • hydrogeological studies

  • clearing tasks

  • soil preparation

  • water resource analysis

These steps will be essential to initiate the planting of the first crops.

Pistachios gain ground as a strategic business in Argentina

Pistachio production has been growing strongly in various regions of the country due to the increasing international demand for nuts and the high added value generated by this crop.

Moreover, pistachios present key advantages for arid regions like Catamarca:

  • low water requirement

  • adaptation to dry climates

  • high export value

  • long productive life

The project seeks to leverage precisely those agroecological conditions of the provincial west to promote new agricultural activities outside traditional sectors.

Belén aims to become a new agro-industrial hub

The provincial government emphasized that the initiative is part of a broader strategy to strengthen Catamarca's productive matrix and attract private investments.

The Minister of Productive Development, Luis Castro, also participated in the meeting and is working on monitoring various projects related to agro-industrial and regional development.

According to reports, the venture anticipates the creation of:

  • direct employment in cultivation

  • positions related to logistics

  • associated services

  • new business opportunities

The provincial commitment aims to consolidate a complete value chain around pistachio production.

Catamarca seeks to diversify its economy with new investments

The official support for the project reflects the province's interest in expanding its productive profile and generating new sources of income linked to regional economies with export potential.

In a context where several provinces seek to attract high-value agricultural investments, Catamarca aims to position itself within an expanding international market.

The sustained growth of global pistachio consumption opens a strategic opportunity for regions with productive capacity like Belén, where the project could become one of the most important agricultural developments in the coming years.
