Arcor invested US$3.8 million, with 100% own capital, to build a solar park in Recreo, Catamarca. The project will allow it to self-generate 90% of the energy consumed by the industrial complex in the area.
The photovoltaic park has an installed capacity of 6.6 MW and an estimated generation of over 11,000 MWh annually, on a 12-hectare site. The investment will be amortized in 4 years, without the need for subsidies or state contributions.
With 37 industrial plants and among the top 10 electricity-consuming companies in the country, Arcor aims to generate its own energy to reduce costs and gain efficiency. The corporate energy manager, Bruno Brunetti, stated that the project aims for an "increasingly efficient" industrial transition.

Arcor and the opening of the market to private generation
The project was unlocked in March when the National Electric Energy Subsecretariat approved the change of category for the company within the Wholesale Electric Market. This authorization allowed it to operate as a self-generator and produce part of the energy it consumes in its industrial processes.
The plant joins other energy initiatives of the company, such as biomass generation in Tucumán and Misiones and the combined cycle plant in Arroyito. The stated goal is to move towards energy independence with investments financed by private capital.
