Almost a year after leaving the club, Darío Benedetto made headlines again at Newell's, although for reasons unrelated to sports. The current forward of Barcelona de Guayaquil filed a lawsuit against the Lepra in the labor courts of the Provincial Courts of Rosario for a debt of 463 thousand dollars related to the agreement that both parties had signed following the termination of his contract.
According to the claim, the institution had acknowledged the existence of the debt and had committed to settling it through a plan of six monthly installments. However, the player claims that Newell’s only paid the first installment and then stopped the payments, which led him to seek legal action to demand the outstanding money.
The agreement had been signed during the management of Ignacio Astore, who left the presidency in December 2025 after the elections that appointed Ignacio Boero as the new head of the club. The agreement also included interest in case Newell’s failed to comply with the established schedule.
