The midfielder of the Argentine National Team shared a lengthy letter after the defeat against Spain, thanked the fans for their support, and called for unity in facing the upcoming challenges
Mac Allister pointed out what those moments were that marked him the most. "The first was when, after receiving our silver medal, the Argentines in the stadium started singing wildly. Family, friends, and fans made any other celebration fade into the background. The second was the welcome in Buenos Aires. With rain, with cold, but with a love for our country and for this National Team that nothing could overshadow. Sorry to say it this way, but you are completely crazy and we love it!".
In another part of the post, the midfielder invited everyone to accept the sporting blow without losing sight of the journey taken and recalled a piece of advice from his mother. "Let’s cry, because we are Argentines and we always want to win. But after crying, let’s get up, unite, and move forward, because this continues. And in these days my mom reminded me of a popular saying that goes: 'A game that has a rematch, you shouldn’t be afraid of'".
Finally, the former Argentinos Juniors and Boca player dedicated some words of gratitude to those who support the team day by day. "Lastly, my eternal gratitude to our family, friends, to those who do the silent work of this National Team, and to everyone who stands by us throughout the year, in good times and bad. They are a huge part of who we are. Thank you to all Argentines for every message of affection and support. You don’t know how important you are on this journey. And also thank you to those who, from other countries, send us messages mocking or rejoicing in our pain. Unintentionally, you help us feel prouder every day of being Argentine".
The message concluded with a simple yet heartfelt "Thank you, Argentina", thus joining the posts of other team members who, after the world runner-up finish, chose to publicly express their feelings and thank the fans for their support.
After the tough defeat in the 2026 World Cup final against Spain, several key players from the Argentine National Team spoke out and shared their thoughts, including Alexis Mac Allister. In a lengthy post on his Instagram account, the midfielder shared a reflection on the match against La Roja, highlighted the unconditional support of the fans, and left a message of unity to face what lies ahead.
Accompanying an image of himself squatting on the grass of MetLife Stadium, the Liverpool player began by expressing the pain of having come so close to the two-time championship. "We were so close… that’s why it hurts so much. But no one can take away everything we experienced during this World Cup. What we felt is not normal. We had to suffer, there were adversities, but we overcame them together. Let’s never forget this, please: Together we are stronger than anyone".
Then, the world champion in Qatar 2022 assured that, despite the result, the tournament left unforgettable memories. "There are moments that are forever etched in our lives and in our hearts. Just as I will never forget that day in 2022 when, with our world champion medal, we walked, cried, and enjoyed the streets of Buenos Aires with our people, this Cup also left us two unforgettable images that reflect the people's identification with this National Team and are a balm for the soul of all Argentines".
