Ezequiel Lavezzi and Sergio “Kun” Agüero reminisced about their early experiences alongside Lionel Messi in the Argentine youth teams, from the South American tournaments to the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

When recalling when he met the Argentine captain, Lavezzi explained: "It was when we were called up for the first match", referring to the initial games of the youth teams. He later remembered that during the South American tournament he shared a room with Messi: "I was concentrating with him".

Out of the National Team for being "rebellious"

The topic of his absence from a youth World Cup also came up, and the “Pocho” responded: "And then I don't go to the World Cup. Terrible. They clean me out". Regarding those times, he added: "What happens is that we were rebellious. We were rebellious".

On another note, Lavezzi recounted a story that occurred during a U-20 World Cup. He explained that around 11 PM he and Messi were using a computer when he decided to go down to buy snacks from a vending machine. He then mentioned that he asked the then Barcelona player for coins: "Give me a coin, you know? Because he had euros. I didn't have any".

The situation ended badly when the elevator opened and Salorio appeared. "When the elevator opens, Leo came out," he recalled with laughter. Then came the physical trainer's reprimand and the discovery of the hidden snacks: "Full of chips, he took them all away from me. He took everything from us".

Another anecdote took place during the Olympics that Argentina ended up winning with Messi as the star. Lavezzi explained that, due to the time change, several players were taking medication to be able to rest. "It seems that that pill for resting wasn't having an effect on us. And it had an effect in every other way," he said.

A peculiar stroll through the hotel

He recalled that one night he went down with Messi and other teammates to get food because they were hungry, but he wasn't fully aware of the situation: "But the worst part is that I went down in my underwear".

The former footballer explained that he was practically asleep while walking through the hotel lobby. "I saw that everyone was looking at me, but I was practically asleep", he assured.
