Just a few days before the start of the 2026 World Cup, the excitement is palpable among millions of Argentines around the world. Among them is Franco Colapinto, who, ahead of the Monaco Grand Prix, took a moment away from Formula 1 to talk about the Argentine National Team and the excitement of seeing Lionel Messi compete in a World Cup.
The Alpine driver acknowledged that he closely follows everything related to the team led by Lionel Scaloni and did not hide his enthusiasm for the World Cup event. "I am very excited about the World Cup. It was great in 2022 and now they will give it their all again. That Messi is playing another World Cup is incredible," the Argentine expressed during an interview conducted at the traditional Media Day prior to the start of activities in the Principality.
In addition to highlighting the presence of the Argentine captain at another World Cup, Colapinto revealed that he is considering the possibility of attending a match of the Albiceleste, although he acknowledged that his demanding schedule in the top category of motorsport complicates plans. "I will try to go to a match. There aren't many options because we are very busy in Europe with races almost every weekend, but there is one date when I could do it," he explained.

The driver noted that Argentina's debut against Algeria on June 16 is one of the alternatives he is considering, but it will all depend on the timing and obligations he has with his team. The proximity between the Barcelona Grand Prix (June 14) and the World Cup opener leaves a narrow margin for any travel, though not impossible.
Another option would be the second group stage match on June 22 against Austria, a match for which he would have a somewhat more favorable window before returning to Europe to continue with the season in the top category, curiously at the Austria Grand Prix (June 28). However, any travel would also require authorization from Alpine, which usually demands the presence of its drivers between races.
Beyond the logistical difficulties, Colapinto made it clear that he will follow every step of the National Team. "It is very exciting to see Argentina again. I hope we have a good World Cup," he stated.
The Pilar native also recalled with enthusiasm his recent meeting with Messi during the Miami Grand Prix. Amid laughter, he hinted that he might run into the Rosario star again in the coming weeks if he manages to attend one of the World Cup matches.

When does Colapinto race again
After his historic sixth place in Canada, Formula 1 will cross the pond and land at the urban circuit of Monaco, where the Argentine finished thirteenth last season. The race in the principality will take place in two weeks, between Friday, June 5, and Sunday, June 7.
