The Government of Javier Milei, through the Undersecretary of University Policies, Alejandro Álvarez, issued an official statement and sent a note to the Rector of the University of Buenos Aires (UBA), Ricardo Gelpi, in which he demanded measures after a violent aggression suffered by
libertarian students.
The episode of political violence occurred on April 18, within the framework of a meeting of the Student Center Management Committee (CecSO), where young members of the group “We Are Free” were physically attacked by left-wing groups in the Faculty of Social Sciences.
Through his account on the social network X, the official announced: “Faced with the repetition of acts of political violence and discrimination at the Faculty of Social Sciences of the University of Buenos Aires, we sent a formal note to Rector Ricardo Gelpi demanding that he assume his non-delegable responsibility: to guarantee the safety of students and the full exercise of freedom within the institution in his charge.”

The Government's statement In the
formal communication addressed to the Rector, Álvarez raised his concern about the events that occurred within the university environment.
“Mr. Rector, I address you in the face of the repugnable events that took place in the university environment of the Faculty of Social Sciences, of the University of Buenos Aires, where students from a university group who expressed their political ideas were physically and verbally attacked,” the document begins.
The undersecretary stressed the need to guarantee basic security conditions within the institution, in line with current regulations.

“Faced with this situation, I urge you to guarantee the physical security of students, the free expression of political ideas, the defense of constitutional rights, compliance with laws 24,521 and 23,592, which have been seriously violated within the spaces of the University you are in charge and for which you are solely responsible within the framework of university autonomy,” he said
.
The official also referred to the legislation that regulates university operation, pointing out direct responsibilities of the rector: “As emanates from articles 29, 31 and 33 of the Higher Education Act No. 24,521, you are the person responsible for coexistence, plurality and good use of the University's facilities.”
In another section, Álvarez demanded an immediate response to the facts reported and warned of possible criminal consequences in the event of inaction.

“As a responsible public official, I demand that you act as quickly as possible, in the face of the serious events reported, so that violence, intolerance and the impairment of freedom of expression do not prevail, preventing delay or negligence in your actions from being considered a breach of your obligations, nor is it subject to criminal complaints that aggravate the situation,
” he said.
Finally, the statement included a formal request for information on the actions taken by the university: “I also request that this Undersecretary be informed of the administrative actions, disciplinary measures and sanctions carried out by the University.”
The official statement comes in a context of increasing left-wing political violence within schools against students who seek to express their ideas peacefully.
