The Government of Axel Kicillof threatened to fine Mercado Libre an amount close to 1.815 million pesos, in a new confrontation with businessman Marcos Galperin.
The measure comes in a context of strong alignment of the company's founder with President Javier Milei, which angers Kirchnerism and especially the far-left governor of the province of Buenos Aires, who responded with a threat of a fine.
In recent hours, Galperin publicly supported President Milei amid a debate over the "wealth tax." It all started after a Kirchnerist journalist on the Futurock channel claimed that it is the ideal time to increase the tax burden on "the rich."
The Argentine president responded through his social media and rejected that delirious idea, due to the serious economic damage it could cause. In this context, Galperin supported Milei's message: "Taking 100% of the wealth from all the richest will not even cover six months of a year's budget for the State."

"The rich vs poor battle was invented by the leftists to take control of the State and become mega-rich and perpetuate themselves in power. They know that due to their abilities, in the private sector, they couldn't manage even a kiosk," added the businessman.
Regarding the potential fine, the action was initiated by the Ministry of Production led by Augusto Costa, which opened an ex officio file to analyze the general conditions of use of the “MELI ecosystem,” along with the terms and conditions related to personal loans and financing through Mercado Pago.
According to sources from the Province, the focus is on a series of clauses they consider “abusive” within adhesion contracts, which, according to them, could violate the Consumer Defense Law. In that framework, they threatened that if the company does not make modifications, the million-dollar sanction could be applied.
