Netflix renewed Devil May Cry for a third season, which will also be the last of the animated series based on the popular video game saga from Capcom.
The news was confirmed by showrunner Adi Shankar, who stated that the original plan always included a story divided into three seasons that would function as a trilogy.

Why season 3 of Devil May Cry will be the last
As Shankar explained, the structure of the series was inspired from the beginning by Dante Alighieri's Divine Comedy.
"Season 1 was Inferno. Season 2 was Purgatorio. Season 3 will be Paradiso," the producer noted when announcing the renewal.
Additionally, he indicated that the three seasons are part of what they called "The Force Edge Saga", conceived from the outset as a cinematic trilogy presented in series format.
