The Vox spokesperson, Ignacio Garriga, stated that:

“Responsibility requires us to talk about measures and how to improve the lives of Andalusians.”

The left is fragmented

Another relevant fact from the election was the growth of Adelante Andalucía, a leftist regionalist space that managed to quadruple its votes and surpass the coalition Por Andalucía.

The fragmentation further weakened the progressive bloc and complicated the PSOE's electoral reconstruction possibilities in the region.

Andalusia consolidates the advance of the center-right in Spain

Moreno Bonilla's victory confirms the consolidation of the PP as the main territorial political force in Spain and deepens the deterioration of Sánchez's establishment.

Although the PP will have to negotiate with Vox to sustain the Andalusian government, the result strengthened Feijóo's leadership and fueled opposition expectations for a future national dispute for La Moncloa.

Juanma Moreno Bonilla once again won decisively in Andalusia and secured a new victory for the Popular Party, in an election that left Spanish socialism plunged into a new political crisis.

Although the PP lost part of the absolute majority obtained in 2022 and will need parliamentary support from Vox to govern, the victory was widely interpreted as another severe blow to Pedro Sánchez's government.

The result also politically strengthened Alberto Núñez Feijóo ahead of the general elections scheduled for 2027.

Feijóo: “Spain said no to Sánchez again”

After the results were announced, Feijóo gathered the national leadership of the PP in Genoa and sent a message directly aimed at the socialist establishment.

“All of Sánchez's legacy that has been tested at the polls received the same response: ‘No, thank you’,” he stated.

The popular leader also asserted that “the campaign for change in Spain starts today” and maintained that the socialist government is experiencing an increasingly evident wear and tear.

The Andalusian election adds to other recent regional victories for the PP in:

  • Extremadura

  • Castilla y León

  • various key municipalities in Spain

The PSOE suffered another defeat and Montero will leave Congress

Montero is leaving Congress.
Montero is leaving Congress.

The big loser of the day was the PSOE led in Andalusia by María Jesús Montero.

The former Minister of Finance acknowledged campaign errors and attributed part of the poor performance to the digital strategy of socialism.

“We have not been able to adapt,” she admitted.

After the result, she also confirmed that she will leave her seat in Congress.

Within socialism, they are trying to prevent the defeat from being interpreted as a national plebiscite against Sánchez, although within the party itself, concern is growing over the sustained loss of electoral support.

Vox becomes the arbiter of the next Andalusian government

Despite the PP's decisive victory, Moreno Bonilla will need parliamentary backing from Santiago Abascal to ensure governability.

Vox obtained 15 deputies and is in a position to condition the future regional government.

Abascal will be the referee in the next government of Andalusia.
