The upcoming visit of Pope Leo XIV to Spain will take place under strict security measures following threats disseminated by environments linked to the Islamic State. The warnings have raised alarms among intelligence services and Spanish security forces, who are already working on a broad operation to ensure the protection of the pontiff and the thousands of faithful expected to participate in public events.
Authorities believe that, although many threats spread on the internet do not materialize, they must be taken with the utmost seriousness due to the history of attacks carried out by extremist organizations inspired by the Islamic State in Europe over the last decade.

The Pope's visit has an important religious and political dimension. Leo XIV is scheduled to participate in meetings with the faithful, institutional representatives, and social leaders, in a context where Europe faces increasing challenges regarding security and the fight against Muslim extremism. For this reason, the Spanish government has decided to strengthen coordination among the National Police, the Civil Guard, intelligence services, and local authorities.
