The 2026 World Cup is about to begin and it does so in an unprecedented way. Instead of a single ceremony, there will be three opening acts, one in each host country: Mexico, Canada, and the United States. This proposal aims to highlight the identity of each nation while emphasizing the unity that the tournament represents.

As planned, the first show takes place this Thursday in Mexico City. The Estadio Azteca, an icon of world football, will be the main stage starting at 11:30 AM. After the cultural and musical act, at 1:00 PM Mexico will face South Africa in the opening match.

The list of artists performing in Mexico is luxurious. Shakira, Alejandro Fernández, Burna Boy, Belinda, Danny Ocean, J Balvin, Ryan Castro, Lila Downs, Los Ángeles Azules, Maná, and Tyla promise a show that mixes Latin rhythms, African sounds, and local music.

The party continues in Toronto

Tomorrow it will be Canada's turn. Toronto's BMO Field will host the second ceremony at 11:30 AM (Guatemala time). Before the match between Canada and Bosnia-Herzegovina scheduled for 1:00 PM, Alanis Morissette, Michael Bublé, Aleksandar Gajić, Alessia Cara, Elyanna, Jessie Reyez, Nora Fatehi, Vegedream, William Prince, and DJ Sanjoy will take the stage.

This show will seek to reflect Canadian multiculturalism with voices representing different styles and backgrounds. The energy of pop, soul, and global rhythms will mark the day on the maple leaf.

The finale in Los Angeles

Finally, on Friday, the third and final opening ceremony will take place in Los Angeles, United States. At 5:30 PM, at the local stadium, Katy Perry, Future, Tyla, Anitta, LISA, Rema, Dan + Shay, and Purahei Soul will perform. The match between the United States and Paraguay is set for 7:00 PM.

“Starting in Mexico City and continuing over the next few days in Toronto and Los Angeles, these ceremonies will bring together music, culture, and football in a way that reflects both the individuality of each nation and the unity that defines this tournament,” said Gianni Infantino, FIFA president, in an official statement.

The proposal for three ceremonies highlights the essence of a World Cup shared by three countries. Each act promises to be unique, with artists representing the musical diversity of the continent and the world. Fans will be able to enjoy these shows before the action on the field begins.

In total, the organization aims to create a memorable kickoff that will go down in football history. From the iconic Estadio Azteca to the stages in Toronto and Los Angeles, the passion for the beautiful game blends with culture and music to welcome the 2026 World Cup.

The shows will not only entertain the present audience but will also be broadcast to millions of viewers around the globe. The anticipation is enormous, and the organizers aim for these ceremonies to be a symbol of brotherhood among the three host nations.

With this innovative format, FIFA seeks to mark a turning point in the way World Cups are inaugurated. The countdown has already ended, and world football is ready to experience an unprecedented celebration.
