Ubisoft confirmed that it is accelerating its investment in Teammates, a playable experience based on generative artificial intelligence that aims to transform the interaction between players, NPCs, and virtual assistants within video games.

The French company included the project in its latest financial report and presented it as part of a technological strategy aimed at creating more dynamic worlds, smarter characters, and systems capable of adapting in real-time to each user's behavior.

What is Teammates, Ubisoft's experiment with generative AI

Teammates was officially presented in November 2025 as a prototype developed by Ubisoft Research & Development.

The demonstration showcased an FPS-structured experience in which the player could interact via voice commands with virtual assistants and AI-controlled teammates.

One of the main elements of the project is Jaspar, an AI assistant designed to accompany the user during gameplay and respond dynamically based on the game's context.

Smarter NPCs and worlds that react to the player

Ubisoft's idea goes beyond just improving automatic dialogues or adding predefined responses. The goal is to build NPCs capable of interpreting commands, reacting to the environment, and modifying their behavior based on the player's decisions.

According to the company, these characters will be able to remember objectives, point out threats, assist during missions, and adapt to changing situations in real-time.

Ubisoft is also working on virtual worlds that react more organically to each user's behavior, something that could change the way open-world experiences are developed.

AI will also be used in the internal development of games

In addition to its use within games, Ubisoft confirmed that it is applying artificial intelligence to streamline internal development processes.

The company mentioned tools aimed at quality control, test automation, and creating smarter bots to assist with technical tasks.

Ubisoft assures that AI will not replace creative work

In light of the debate about the impact of AI on the industry, Ubisoft attempted to draw distinctions regarding the role of human developers.

The company stated that writers will continue to define the story, the rules of the world, the personalities, and the narrative limits of each character.

In that context, artificial intelligence would function as a complementary tool capable of improvising within parameters previously established by creative teams.

Teammates is not yet a commercial video game

For now, Ubisoft has not presented Teammates as an independent commercial product.

Currently, it operates as an experimental experience and a testing ground for technologies that could eventually be integrated into future titles from the company.

However, the most important fact is that Ubisoft no longer considers it a simple technical demonstration. The project has become part of a strategic investment line focused on virtual assistants, advanced NPCs, and generative AI systems applied to video games.
