The communist Yamandú Orsi allowed the British Embassy to set up a stand to promote the Falklands under the colonial name "Falkland Islands," which prompted a formal protest from the Embassy

The Argentine Republic is undergoing a historic transformation in the defense of its national sovereignty under the unwavering leadership of President Javier Milei, who recently, through a forceful national broadcast, reaffirmed that "the Malvinas are Argentine, by history and by right". However, this firm stance of the libertarian administration sharply contrasts with the diplomatic complacency of the communist government of Yamandú Orsi in the Oriental Republic of Uruguay.

In Montevideo, local authorities allowed a scandalous colonialist provocation during the Expo Prado 2026, the most significant livestock, agro-industrial, and commercial fair of the year in that country. Inside the United Kingdom pavilion, the British Embassy set up an unpunished island stage that openly promoted the usurped archipelago under the illegitimate colonial names of Falklands and The Falkland Islands.

In that space, not only was graphic material in Spanish distributed with brochures of a purely political nature and information from the self-proclaimed Legislative Assembly, but a shameless tasting was also organized, promoted as Gin from the Falkland Islands. To further aggravate the territorial affront on Uruguayan soil, the tolerance of the Executive of Yamandú Orsi allowed the arrival of "delegations" from the illegitimate colonial government, with at least 2 instances of supposed "legislators" who have no recognition from either of the two States.

In the face of this unacceptable affront in a neighboring country, the Argentine Embassy in Uruguay acted with the utmost firmness on August 31 by sending a formal note of rejection addressed to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In the official document, the diplomatic representation stated: “This representation wishes to express its rejection of the presence of the aforementioned 'office' of the Falkland Islands”.

Furthermore, the Argentine letter warned the Uruguayan authorities that “the Argentine Republic would deeply regret that the traditional event of Uruguayan agriculture is used to promote British positioning in the Falkland Islands as if it were a differentiated entity from the Argentine Republic”.

In line with this position, Argentine diplomacy demanded that the Uruguayan Foreign Ministry “that Uruguayan authorities refrain from maintaining official contacts with illegitimate island authorities” and formally requested that this warning be conveyed to the board of the Rural Association of Uruguay.

The management of this crisis by the government of Yamandú Orsi exposed a scandalous institutional disorder and lack of patriotic conviction. Initially, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uruguay sent notes to the President of the Senate, Carolina Cosse, and the head of the Chamber of Deputies, Rodrigo Goñi, indicating that “It is suggested to avoid official contacts with potential representatives or envoys from the Falkland Islands”.

However, the opposition senator from the Colorado Party, Pedro Bordaberry, severely questioned that the communication was “transferred to Parliament as if it were an instruction to comply with”, although he emphasized the “historic and sustained support of Uruguay for the legitimate Argentine rights over the Falkland Islands, which is not disputed”.

Cornered and directionless, the Foreign Ministry of the government of Yamandú Orsi shamefully conceded by sending a new note in which it reversed its position and justified the initial suggestion, shamelessly labeling it as an “involuntary error”.

This episode highlights the leadership abyss between regional collectivist passivity and the doctrinal firmness of President Javier Milei. Over the past 3 years, the Argentine government has strengthened its claim, obtaining 18 resolutions from international organizations and presenting more than 60 formal proposals against unilateral British actions.

In the face of non-compliance with the calls from the United Nations that have prohibited altering the area for 50 years, the Argentine Foreign Ministry has already issued nearly 180 notes of discouragement to companies and to more than 29 countries. With the implementation of Decree 868/2026 and the sanctions of Law 26.659, the libertarian Argentina demonstrates that defending sovereign rights requires conviction, economic solvency, and the firm determination to make the great homeland great again.
