BID financing will support the purchase of medications and improve care in the country's hospitals

The Government of Daniel Noboa announced that the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) approved financing of USD 250 million to strengthen the purchase of medicines and improve medical care in Ecuador. The agreement was finalized as part of the project "Improvement of the quality of prevention, diagnosis, and treatment services for non-communicable chronic diseases."

The Presidency reported that the project was managed directly by Daniel Noboa in meetings with the executive vice president of the IDB, Jordan Schwartz, and the director for Ecuador, Roberto Izurieta. The initiative is part of the Government's health modernization plan, which seeks to guarantee supply, efficiency, and transparency in the national health system.

In September, the president announced an additional investment of USD 200 million for a massive purchase of medicines to supply hospitals and health centers. The plan included the creation of the National Public Health Committee, responsible for supervising procurement processes with international standards to prevent corruption and eliminate shortages.

"One of our objectives is to end the disorganization of the health system and ensure that resources reach the people," stated Noboa regarding this policy, which prioritizes timely medical care and access to quality treatments. The program will also strengthen preventive capacities against chronic diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, and cancer.
