Paul Pelosi, husband of former Democratic Speaker of the United States House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi, is facing a new legal issue after being accused of causing a traffic accident and leaving the scene in Napa County, California. The incident occurs just over two years after he pleaded guilty to driving under the influence of alcohol in another crash that took place in the same region.

According to the Napa County Sheriff's Office, the accident occurred on Friday afternoon in the town of Yountville, located north of San Francisco. A witness reported to authorities that a brown convertible hit an unoccupied parked vehicle before continuing on without stopping.

Shortly thereafter, officers found Pelosi's vehicle partially blocking a nearby highway, after it became disabled due to the damage sustained during the incident. The driver was identified as Paul Pelosi, 86 years old.

According to the authorities' report, during the investigation, Pelosi acknowledged that he was aware he had hit "something," although he claimed he did not know exactly what he had struck. Despite this, he continued driving until his car could no longer move.

After tests were conducted at the scene, investigators ruled out that alcohol consumption influenced the accident this time. The preliminary breathalyzer test showed a result of 0.00%, so the hypothesis of driving under the influence of alcohol was dismissed from the start of the investigation.

However, the Sheriff's Office concluded that Pelosi was responsible for the collision and announced that it will refer the case to the Napa County District Attorney's Office to determine whether to formally file a misdemeanor charge of hit and run.

Authorities explained that Pelosi was not arrested at the scene, as this type of infraction is usually processed by referring the case to the prosecutor, who will decide whether to proceed with a charge.

Additionally, the sheriff stated that he would send a request to the California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) for a re-evaluation of Pelosi's ability to drive, a standard procedure when elderly drivers are involved in accidents that could raise doubts about their fitness to remain behind the wheel.

The new incident once again places the Pelosi family under public scrutiny. In May 2022, Paul Pelosi was involved in another accident in the same county while driving under the influence of alcohol. On that occasion, he collided with another vehicle, causing injuries to its driver.

He later pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor for driving under the influence causing injury and was sentenced to three years of probation, five days in jail, mostly served through custody credits and a work program, a mandatory three-month alcohol education course, the installation of an ignition interlock device in his vehicle for one year, as well as the payment of fines and restitution.

Although the most recent episode does not involve alcohol, the fact that he is once again involved in a traffic accident has reignited criticism of the behavior of the husband of one of the most influential figures in the Democratic Party.
