Rafael Nadal is one step away from joining the Board of Directors of Real Madrid, a new chapter for the former Spanish tennis player, whose relationship with the white club has spanned decades. The institution announced this Wednesday, November 4, that its leaders agreed to elevate his appointment to the General Assembly of Committed Members, responsible for giving final approval.
The former world number one, retired from professional tennis since November 2024, accepted the proposal from Florentino Pérez and publicly shared his enthusiasm. Although his incorporation still requires formal ratification, the announcement marks a shift in his connection with Madridismo: from fan and honorary member to a possible member of the institutional leadership.
Florentino Pérez proposed Nadal for the Board of Directors
The decision was made during a meeting of the Real Madrid authorities held on Wednesday, November 4. In its official statement, the club identified the former athlete as Rafael Nadal Parera, member number 67,778, and confirmed that the proposal will be put to a vote.
The General Assembly of Committed Members is scheduled for Saturday, November 21. Until then, the appointment should not be considered definitive, as it requires the intervention of that body.
The entity also did not detail what specific functions Nadal would have within the Board or what responsibilities he would assume once the procedure is completed.
Nadal's reaction: “I have accepted this proposal with great enthusiasm”
After the news broke, Nadal publicly thanked the offer through his social media.
“I want to thank President Florentino Pérez and the Board for proposing that I be part of the Board of Directors. I have accepted this proposal with great enthusiasm, a desire to learn, and to contribute all that I can”, he wrote.
The message reflected his willingness to take on a responsibility different from those he held during his sports career. Nadal did not announce specific projects nor did he reveal decisions about the club's operations, but emphasized his willingness to learn and collaborate.
