The statements came amid Trump's anger at the United Kingdom for its lack of military collaboration.

In a context of tension over the military offensive against Iran and President Donald Trump's discomfort with some of his traditional allies, an important figure in the Republican Party raised the possibility of a historic shift in U.S. foreign policy with respect to the Falkland Islands.

This is Marc Zell, vice president of Republicans Overseas and president of Republicans Overseas Israel, close to Trump, who published a message on the social network X in which he suggested that the US administration should consider supporting Argentina's claim to sovereignty over the islands, leaving aside the United Kingdom.

The approach is framed in the current crisis surrounding the Strait of Hormuz, where the United States seeks to guarantee the safety of international maritime traffic.

In this scenario, Zell contrasting the attitude of the British with that of the Argentine government headed by Javier Milei.

“Argentina is sending naval units to help the United States safeguard international maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz. The United Kingdom has refused,” he wrote, referring directly to the lack of British collaboration in a strategic area for global trade and energy supply

.

However, despite the great support offered by Milei to the United States and Israel, the claim that Argentina is sending "naval units" to Ormuz is false.

Based on that comparison, the Republican leader questioned the position of the United Kingdom and raised the possibility of a political response from Washington. “In view of the United Kingdom's cowardly refusal to support the United States, it would be appropriate for the Trump administration to consider reversing its policy on the Falklands and supporting the Argentine claim,” he

said.

The statement takes on relevance amid Trump's anger at historic allies, particularly the United Kingdom, for their refusal to accompany US strategy in the Middle East. This context reinforces the political weight of the approach, which introduces a sensitive element into the transatlantic relationship

Zell also referred to historical background to support his position. He recalled the Falklands War, when the United States, under the presidency of Ronald Reagan, backed the United Kingdom led by Margaret Thatcher to

steal the islands from Argentina.

In this sense, his proposal implies an unprecedented change of course with respect to a historical position consolidated over decades.

Traditionally, the United States has maintained a position aligned with the United Kingdom in the dispute over the sovereignty of the islands, making this proposal an event with a strong political and diplomatic impact.

Who is Marc Zell

Marc Zell, an international lawyer based in Jerusalem, has an extensive experience in the legal and political field linked to

the Republican Party.

As president of Republicans Overseas Israel and vice president of Republicans Overseas, he has worked for years to represent American citizens abroad and promote the republican agenda outside the country.

In a global scenario marked by geopolitical rearrangements, his statements introduce a new factor into the debate about the sovereignty of the Falkland Islands and the international position of the United States vis-à-vis its traditional partners.
